The Mind

The Platinum level, marks an important milestone in your musical journey. This is where you delve deeper into the complexities of the piano, stepping into the realm of advanced techniques, diverse genres, and emotive playing.

The Platinum(Mind) section of this piano course offers a deep dive into the intricate world of nuanced techniques and diverse musical styles. Like the brain’s sophisticated neural networks, the Platinum section processes, coordinates, and integrates the skills and knowledge you’ve acquired, turning them into harmonious and emotionally engaging music.

In Unit 7, we begin our exploration of Wrist Movement, Phrasing, and Black-Key Scales. Here, students delve into the finer mechanics of piano playing, focusing on creating fluid, stress-free performances through a flexible and agile wrist. Phrasing and the study of black-key scales open a new realm of expression, enabling students to create richer, more emotionally resonant music.

Unit 8 propels your learning journey forward, covering Legato Pedaling, Tone Control, and Left-Hand Melodies. The meticulous use of legato pedaling enhances the seamless transitions between notes, while tone control offers new dimensions of color and mood in the music. The focus on left-hand melodies and staccato scales expands the range of expression and introduces new techniques.

Unit 9 turns the spotlight onto Jazz, Rock, Blues, and Chord Progressions. By exploring scales unique to these genres and the theory behind them, students will unlock the door to a wealth of rhythmic vitality and emotional depth. From jazz chord progressions to chord embellishments, this unit equips students with the tools needed to authentically express the spirit of these vibrant genres.

Unit 10 emphasizes Interpretation and Espressivo, enhancing the artistic side of piano playing. By interpreting the emotional content of music pieces and applying expressive techniques, students learn to create a powerful, emotive connection with the audience. The unit also covers the practical aspects of rotation and the study of melodic minor scales and arpeggios performed with both hands.

Unit 11, covering Finger Independence and Advanced Techniques, focuses on developing the fine motor skills necessary for performing more complex pieces. Through lessons on finger independence, ornamentation, and left-hand leaps, students cultivate a range of advanced technical skills. The study of black-key arpeggios offers an expanded toolkit for more nuanced and complex musical expressions.

Finally, Unit 12 dives into the rhythmically intricate worlds of Jazz, Rock, Blues, and Syncopation. Lessons on syncopation, grooves, and swing provide a firm grounding in these foundational jazz and rock techniques. Students also explore rhythmic idioms, riffs, and licks, adding depth and flavor to their performances. The unit concludes with a comprehensive exploration of song form, the 12-Bar Blues, and the use of lead sheets.

Much like how the brain orchestrates our thoughts and actions, the Platinum section acts as the ‘mind’ of your piano journey. It brings together all the skills and knowledge you’ve acquired, enhancing your cognitive abilities, technical prowess, and emotional expression. The path might be challenging, but the resulting synthesis of mind and music is a reward well worth the journey.
